Counsellors Assist Launches Listening Circles
notice May 7 listening circles postponed due to Wi-Fi down – apologies we will resume next week Working out how Counsellors Assist can best support
We are a small voluntary think-tank in development, a newly formed group of international counsellors, therapists, organisations and coaches – with the intention to support mental health professionals & organisations who may find themselves navigating through turbulent times.
Whether that means a global pandemic, a natural disaster, acts of terror, a refugee crisis, during or the aftermath of war – we are here to offer support.
Sadly it has taken the current war in Ukraine for us to come together. Whilst currently our thoughts are with Ukraine – we aim to offer ongoing support where support is needed.
For me personally this has been a wake up call – to question and explore what can we do as a counselling profession to offer support during turbulent times? We will be adding more details over the coming months of our objectives and aims as we develop our ideas and goals.
We believe together we are stronger (thank you Kim for teaching us this).
Best Wishes
Yasmin
To be honest – we are not quite sure just yet. All we know is that there is a need for additional support for those working on the ground in the counselling profession.
Inspired by Dr Beverley De Costa’s The Social Response Cycle and informed brilliantly through her video Volunteers Without Tears – (when less is sometimes more) we are ready to find out how we can best support.
Support could mean finding additional resources – for therapists, refugees & hosts, , acquiring new skills, raising funds, networking in various groups, working towards change in policy, raising awareness of issues such as sexual exploitation in war, connecting suitable mother tongue or culturally sensitive counsellors or suitable supervisors. What we know we are ready to give this a try.
On this platform, you will find a growing number of resources. We don’t promise a solution to every need – but we can create a space to network, to make life easier for mental health professionals on the ground – so they can feel supported & informed.
